The fashion world has many phrases and terms we hear and
read, but don’t exactly understand. Case in point: resort wear.
So, what is ‘resort wear’?
Is it what you wear when you suntan on a serene, white beach
while a tan, toned member of the opposite sex constantly hands you tropical
drinks and tells you how you look “oh so sexy and relaxed”? (Insert foreign
accent)
Is it what you wear while you yacht from the French Riviera
to the Greek Isles?
Do you wear it in Monaco?
Resort wear – also known as cruise and pre-spring is an
independent fashion season that has recently become the most wearable
collection. It rivals fall and spring and, according to an article called “The
Little Season That Could,” recently published online by WSJ, the magazine of the Wall
Street Journal, Resort can account for up to 70-80 percent of women’s
designer-apparel sales.
WSJ says, “It’s a
colorful irony that a season inspired by leisure time has become the
hardest-working collection in the business.”
“Conceived to be refreshing and commercial, resort tends to
be more wearable than runway collections, without so many of the ‘Who would
wear that?’ moments.”
‘Resort wear’ tends to be more realistic collections that
consumers embrace. Resort delivery-dates support customers’ desire for newness,
and satisfy the current trend of buying clothes for immediate consumption.
So, don’t be caught off guard when you run from your car, through
the bitter winter chill, into our door and are greeted with bright colors and
silky garments.
Don’t you dare think, “I can’t wear this now!”
YOU CAN WEAR IT NOW!
Embrace the colors, fabrics, and silhouettes. It’s resort
wear! It’s supposed to be fun. You can work these garments into your winter
wardrobe. Spice it up … who doesn’t want a neon-orange winter?
